Project Elephant
Project Elephant was launched by the Government of India in the year 1992 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for tackling the serious decline in elephant population of the country , support states with large elephant populations , manage man-animal conflict & ensure overall conservation of the Indian Elephant.
1. To protect elephants, their habitat & corridors 2. To address issues of man-animal conflict 3. Welfare of captive elephants
1. Habitat improvement through fodder plantation creation , creation of water bodies 2. Financial aid to victims of human-elephant conflict 3.Infrastructure creation to prevent human elephant conflict 4.Empowering the State Forest Departments in tackling human elephant conflict
