11 | Attractions for tourists | Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary has a large wetland (approximately 20 % of the area), hygrophytes’ association of ferns and water plants occur on the edges of the water bodies. These are all essential for the habitat needs of the migratory waterfowl and residential aquatic fauna. The heterogeneous mixture of ground flora is indicated in agglomeration of various monocots and dicots, herbs, shrubs, climbers, lichen, ferns and regeneration of underground bulbs and rhizomes. The canopy density varies from 0.70 to 0.80 in the Sanctuary. The wetland is a major winter habitat for migratory birds like lesser whistling teals. A flock of other species of birds like barbets (Capitonidae), bulbul (Pycnonotidae), cuckoos (Cuculidae), darters (Phalacrocoracidae), doves and pigeons (Columbidae), drongos (Dicruridae), ducks (Anatidae), Oriloes (Oriolidae), Owls (Strigidae), parakets (Psittacidae), Partridges (Phasianidae), Sun birds (Nectariniidae), wood peckers (Picidae), weaver birds (Plocidae), tree pies (Corvidae) and mynas (Sturnidae) |
